Oldest Sweet Shop in Madurai

Currently managed by the fourth generation, the `Original Nagapattinam Sweet Shop' was opened by K S Vishwanath Iyer in the temple town of Madurai in 1901 with a grand amount of Rs 1/- Armed with the recipe of a sweet called `Halwa' Vishwanatha set up a 10 feet by 8 feet sweet shop, which was later shifted to opposite the West Tower of Meenakshi Temple in 1942. Patronized by worshipers visiting the temple as well as important celebrities & personalities, the sweet shop is today a household name in Madurai with many sweets running out of supply in no time.

This famous outlet also supplies potato masala & an afternoon meal of rice & curds. This sweet shop like the Meenakshi Temple has patiently stood the test of time.
