In the year 1922 the Nawab of Junagadh organized a grand `wedding' celebration of favorite pet dog Roshanara with with a golden retriever Bobby, belonging to the Maharaja of Mangrol. More than 50,000 guests were invited for the occasion, while Rs 22,000 was spent, then considered a humungous amount. Lord Irwin the then Viceroy General was invited for the event, though he refused. Dressed in bridal attire, Roshanara was carried in a silver palanquin to the Durbar Hall. The groom was received at the railway station by 250 of his fellow breed dressed in brocade, while wore a necklace & bracelets. There was also military band present & a guard of honor was accorded, thereby making the welcome an official event.

Known to be extremely passionate to dogs, Nawab Muhammad Mahabat Khan III reportedly had 800 dogs, each of which had a separate room, an attendant & a telephone (why a telephone was needed defies all logic, nevertheless) and devoted 11% of the state's income for the upkeep of his canine troop, who lived a life of superfluous luxury, on the other hand there was ample poverty in the state to indicate this money definitely could be used for better purposes. When India gained independence in 1947 the Nawab swiftly moved his family & four of his pet dogs along with his family wealth in a private airplane, spending the rest of his life in neighboring Pakistan.
