Bell Temple known for Unique Rituals
Imagine hanging a bell each time you receive a favor, or win a decree in your favor. This is what happens at the bell temple, also known as the Golu Devta Temple 15 kilometers from Nainital in the hill state of Uttaranchal, India. Situated at a height of 2000 meters above sea level in the midst of some magnificent scenic beauty, the temple is home to hundreds of bells of various shapes & sizes. Hill temples in India have unique customs, the bell temple though stands out with an amazing display of color, lilting melodious sound, brilliant views of lakes, verdant valleys & carpets of sloping greens. Bells have a special significance for followers of Hinduism. It is believed the sound replicates the sound of the universe which is OM. The bell when struck creates a sound/note which slowly disappears into the `other world.' The transformation from creating an entity, that then remains an entity, finally becoming a non-entity is what the sound seeks to signify.
