Located in Raisen district of central madhya pradesh, bhojpur temple enjoys two reputations: it has one of the largest lingams found in any temple with its height reaching 18 feet & circumference touching 7.5 feet. Secondly, the outer structure & its exterior walls were never built. The structure rests on four massive pillars with an elegantly carved corbelled dome. Reasons for construction being abandoned to leave an incomplete structure are unknown.

Said to be constructed in the mid 11th century the temple is attributed to Raja Bhoja. An intriguing part of this unfinished structure is there are a number of architectural drawings engraved on flat surfaces of the quarry showing mouldings, pillars & temple plans. A large earthen ramp at the rear end of the temple shows the manner in which craftsmen moved huge stones into position. To date the Bhojpur Temple gathers a huge number of worshippers.
