An Austin Automobile converted into a Railway Car.
Where else, but at the Rail Museum in Mysore (Karnataka) will you find an Austin Car converted into a workable rail car, used for inspection purposes by the Indian railways during the 20th century. The story goes, the automobile was sold as scrap and later picked up by a Railway employee who replaced the steering wheel and the wheels with rail wheels. The successful contraption can be seen at rail museum in mysore, built in 1979. Among the impressive exhibits are steam locomotives, carriages, signaling & telecommunication equipment used by the railways over the ages.
On display is also the Maharani's saloon containing a dining hall, kitchen & a Royal toilet. India's first steam engine is also on display, as are the two Maharaja's carriages providing an insight of royal grandeur & lifestyle of the Wodeyars - the former rulers of the princely state of Mysore. Built on the lines of the Rail Museum in Delhi, one is transported back to the 19th & 20th century where progress meant inventions & the industrial revolution. Well worth a peep!

The Railway Museum was
established in the year 1979 under the supervision of Indian Railways. It is
located on the Krishnaraja Sagar Road in Mysore. The Mysore Railway Museum is
the second such museum in the country after the National Railway Museum in
Delhi. The museum is famous for being the only place in the country that houses
an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives.
