Day 1: Arrival in Aurangabad

  • Morning/Afternoon: Take a train from your departure city to Aurangabad.
  • Evening: Arrive in Aurangabad and check in to your hotel. If time permits, you can explore the local markets or take a stroll around the city to get a feel of the place. Overnight stay: Aurangabad. 

Day 2: Ellora Caves & Daulatabad Fort

  • Morning: Ellora Caves: After breakfast, head to the famous Ellora Caves (about 30 km from Aurangabad). Explore these UNESCO World Heritage rock-cut caves, which include Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples. Must-visit caves: Cave 16 (Kailasa Temple), Cave 10 (Vishwakarma Cave), and Cave 32 (Jain Temple). Spend around 3-4 hours here.
  • Afternoon: Lunch: You can stop for lunch at a local restaurant near the caves or head back to Aurangabad.
  • Afternoon: Daulatabad Fort: Visit the majestic Daulatabad Fort, which is about 15 km from Aurangabad. This 14th-century fort offers panoramic views of the surroundings and features strong fortifications, secret passages, and interesting history. Spend about 1-2 hours exploring the fort.
  • Evening: Return to your hotel in Aurangabad and relax for the evening. Overnight stay: Aurangabad.

Day 3: Ajanta Caves 

  • Morning: After an early breakfast, head to the Ajanta Caves (approx. 100 km, 2-2.5 hours' drive from Aurangabad). Ajanta Caves: Explore the famous rock-cut caves of Ajanta, which are known for their Buddhist sculptures and exquisite paintings depicting the life of the Buddha and Jataka tales. Popular caves: Caves 1, 2, 16, and 17 for the most detailed paintings and sculptures. Plan to spend around 3-4 hours here.
  • Afternoon: Depending on your interest and available time, you can visit: Bibi Ka Maqbara: A smaller replica of the Taj Mahal, built in the 17th century, often referred to as the "Mini Taj Mahal." Panchakki: A 17th-century water mill used to grind grain for pilgrims.
  • Evening: Relax at your hotel after the long day of exploration. Overnight stay: Aurangabad.

Day 4: Departure 

  • Morning: Take the afternoon train from Aurangabad to Mumbai for your onward journey.
